Waacking is a street dance created by a multicultural group of gay men in underground clubs during the 1970s. Originally called “punking,” this art form was a means of freedom and play amidst a backdrop of extreme oppression against the queer community. The style is characterized by rapid arm rolls, striking motions, dramatic poses and storytelling elements.
In this beginner-friendly workshop taught by Alice Hur, learn the basics of waacking. Come in clothing suitable for movement.
This program is for teens grades 6 to 12. Registration is not required; register to receive an email reminder. Doors will close when the program is full.
