Join us for a virtual conversation with investigative journalist Mariah Blake about her book, They Poisoned the World: Life and Death in the Age of Forever Chemicals.

Blake’s gripping investigation traces the chemical industry’s decades-long campaign to conceal the dangers of PFAS — “forever chemicals” that have quietly infiltrated daily life. Told through the story of a small town on the frontlines of a public health crisis, the book reveals how these chemicals reached our homes, bodies, and water supplies, and what it means for public health moving forward.

Mariah Blake’s writing has appeared in The New York Times, The Atlantic, Mother Jones, The New Republic, and other publications. She was a Murrey Marder Nieman Fellow in Watchdog Journalism at Harvard University. They Poisoned the World was named A Best Book of the Year by The Washington Post, Scientific American, and Booked Up in 2025.
