Join us for a screening of Robert Redford’s Academy Award-winning drama, Ordinary People (1980), with an introduction and post-screening discussion led by Christina Wright, Film Studies Professor at San Jose State University and De Anza College.

Recipient of the 1981 Academy Award for Best Picture, Ordinary People follows the Jarrett family in the aftermath of a tragic accident that claimed the life of one son and left the other, Conrad, struggling with guilt and grief. The film quietly unravels the tensions beneath his family’s composed surface, further exposing how grief affects each family member differently and how silence and denial can pull a family apart.

Christina Wright is a Film Studies professor and screenwriter. In addition to teaching at SJSU and De Anza, she works as a Film Review and Curation Consultant for Wayfarer Theaters, which includes writing weekly reviews for new film releases. Christina serves on the Arts Commission for the City of Sunnyvale and also freelances as a Social Emotional Arts Facilitator and Character and Leadership Development Coach. Christina holds an M.Phil in Film Theory and History from Trinity College Dublin, B.A. in Theatre Arts from San Francisco State University and A.A. in Speech Communications from Foothill College. She is currently authoring a book on the power of film to drive social discourse in America.
